"I Have A Dream" provides support to our students that evolves as the Dreamers progress towards college. Throughout the program, we stay consistently focused on six core strategies, that together, form our program framework:
-
Foster the expectation of college: We instill in our Dreamers, along with their families and communities, the expectation that they will pursue higher education, and we build a network of champions around the Dreamers who are invested in this goal;
-
Ensure academic readiness: We work with Dreamers and their families to place students in academically rigorous middle schools and high schools, and we provide Dreamers withsupplementary academic services as needed;
-
Cultivate Dreamers' ongoing leadership: We develop life skills, character, and habits in our Dreamers to support their pursuit of higher education and their continued success in college and beyond;
-
Empower Dreamers and their families: We equip students with cognitive skills to enable them to maximize each instructional hour at school, and help them and their families navigate the school system at every stage of the process, culminating in college matriculation;
-
Ensure financial access: We ensure that Dreamers have the financing they need to attend college, first exhausting existing sources (scholarships, financial aid, etc.) and then providing the "last dollar"; and
-
Create a context conducive to success: We work to address other needs of our Dreamers and develop their skills in areas that impact their academic success and overall efficacy, including health literacy and financial planning.
